"Fagbug Nation" takes you behind the wheel of what it's like to drive the once vandalized, now famous "Fagbug." With six years of touring under her belt, director Erin Davies ("Fagbug," 2009, Netflix) has her mind set on getting her car to all 50 states, Hawaii and Alaska being the final two. To pull this off, Erin went 54 days without a car, put her car on 5 boats, and flew on 14 planes. The Fagbug gets leis'd in Hawaii and drives through the midnight sun to Alaska, but first makes a pit stop at the Equality House in Topeka, Kansas. On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized, left with the words "fag" and "u r gay" placed on the driver's side window and hood of her car. Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered other, more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. Directors Kalima Young & Erin Davies base the 6-month improvisation writing sessions on the Hero's Journey, teaching each young person to see themselves as the heroes in their own lives. Donate to Fagbug

Donations go toward gas, maintenance, and car repairs. In the past 12 months, the fagbug has had 13 car repairs and is currently in need of a new power steering return line. The part is $350 and labor around $150. The fagbug is also in need of a new vinyl wrap. It had a 4 year warantee but has been on 6 years, and is falling apart. A new vinyl wrap for the fagbug costs $2500.
